Finding the Sierras
I drove over Tioga Pass from Yosemite June 18 and have been exploring the Mammoth Lakes region in the Eastern Sierras since then. The area has been a useful basecamp with all the amenities needed to comfortably plan for more amazing hikes and backpacking trips as well as familiarize myself with the permitting system necessary for overnights in the wilderness.
The Finding America Project continues to take on a life of it’s own with deep dives in areas before moving on. After a hot spell, many of the days and nights have been cooler here and I have become more focused on refining my backpacking kit, route planning and pursuing hikes with more altitude and elevation gain. As if to pick up where I left off years ago I am still finding the challenges and satisfaction when moving higher in the mountains. It has been keeping me busy and content to keep pushing myself and finding places that I will never forget. Finding remote places currently is a challenge, but has been deeply rewarding when I have.
The following are each from a separate trip so far in this area with the exception of Thousand Island Lake loop that I will share in more detail in a future post.
July 4-6: Climbing Mount Morgan.
