Chicago to New Hampshire. 1,106 miles to get home. Pack. Sell stuff. Get ready.
For over a year I have been planning. I have been consumed with planning. For anyone that knows me, that’s not a surprise. My focus has been all about learning as much as I can about traveling on the road, logistics and refining my goals. Learning what I can about what’s important to me and to people along the way.
The idea: The Finding America Project. Over the years, photographers have gone on the quest to look at America through the lens, whether is was to tell the story of the Great Depression thought the work of 11 photographers with the Farm Security Administration, later with Gordon Parks who highlighted racism in the country or images of the wild places that would become National Parks with the help of Ansel Adams. The Americans is a photographic book by Robert Frank that explored the disparities in the country. The list goes on. National Geographic work was among the media that spoke to me growing up as well. All of it, to me, was tied to looking at how we are- at that time (this time). That honesty made/makes a difference.
I can’t say what I will find or really what I am looking for, only that I have this opportunity to see where we are today. Maybe some of the whys or hows will show up.
